Underground Railroad Heritage Trail
The Underground Railroad Heritage Trail honors and celebrates the brave freedom-seekers (escaped slaves) who journeyed north to New York State and those courageous New Yorkers who helped them achieve their dream. New York State was at the forefront of the Underground Railroad movement and a major destination for freedom-seekers. Learn about New Yorkers like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and John Brown, among others, who were pivotal in the struggle to end slavery.
